Joplin Travel Guide
Welcome to Joplin, MO!
Situated in the southwestern corner of Missouri, the city of Joplin showcases its mining history through their activities, events and attractions. Festivals such as Boomtown Days pay tribute to the many mining camps once present through an eclectic mix of musical artists, food vendors and children's activities, while Airfest displays high-flying planes every odd year at the end of June. A few of Joplin's buildings are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, two of them being the Elks Club Lodge 501 and the Scottish Rite Cathedral. A detailed history of Joplin can be viewed at the Everett J. Ritchie Mining Museum, which has a huge display of minerals and a replica of an old mineshaft. Visitors should head south of Joplin to Shoal Creek and witness the state's largest waterfall, Grand Falls, that plunges over 25 feet. Other attractions such as the Reptile World Zoo, Route 66 Carousel Park, Ewert Water Park and Lazer City provide entertainment for all family members throughout the year.
